Classes and playing with fire

I have been totally slacking on this blog. There is lots that I could write about but I have just been too lazy to take the time to type it out.
Tomorrow Abby starts a Spanish class at our local community center. It is a weekly three hour class and I have a feeling it will be quite "preschooly" and wonder how she will like it. Lately she has really been persistent with me that she wants more time to play with kids. I have been planning more playdates and hope this class will help with that a bit too. Although, I drive myself crazy trying to figure out what is a good amount of time for her to be with other kids. Sometimes I feel like she obsesses way too much about playing with the neighbor kids but then wonder if this is just normal for her age or if I am not giving her what she needs so she is trying to get it elsewhere. Don't really know how I will get the answer to that one!

On a differnet note today I let Abby play with matches. She wanted candles lit at dinner and then after watching her dad wave his hand over the flame (umm don't ask me what he was thinking!) she did it too and realized that it hurts. She said she was trying to see if it would feel like our heater which she realized it doesn't. So, anyways I was sitting there trying to figure out a way for her to learn about fire and not make it a big scary, stay away sort of thing. I remembered reading on Dayna Martin's blog about how she let her kids play with matches one day. I asked Abby if she wanted to play with matches and she got really excited. She lit about 10or so and thought it was great. I could tell she didn't get her fill yet and so expect that she will ask to do it again tomorrow. It was fun for me too to release the fear that I had about her "playing" with fire or getting burned. Of course I had the whole talk with her about playing with matches only with mom and dad and that whenever she wanted to she could as long as we were with her etc etc. I think hubby is a little worried I am going to produce an arsonist :)
